A Town of Basom man was arrested for driving while intoxicated about 9:30 a.m. Sunday after he ran his vehicle onto the 18th fairway of Dande Farms Country Club, 13279 Carney Road, Town of Newstead, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies arrested Robert Van Pelt, 36, after he left his vehicle and started walking toward Carney Road.

After Van Pelt was taken to the sheriff’s Clarence substation, officers said he was given a breath test and registered a blood alcohol content of 0.28 percent, more than three times the legal limit.

Van Pelt was charged with felony aggravated DWI after it was discovered that he had a DWI conviction in April 2011. He also was charged with trespass, criminal mischief and various vehicle and traffic counts. He was taken to Erie County Holding Center pending arraignment in Newstead Town Court.
