A former Eden High School assistant wrestling coach pleaded guilty Tuesday to rape charges after having had inappropriate relationships with two underage girls in 2012, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said.
Justin N. Farrara, 27, of Richmond Avenue, Hamburg, was charged with two counts of third-degree rape, stemming from separate incidents in April and August 2012, said District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.
“This is a classic statutory rape case,” Sedita said. “Under a certain age, you can’t consent.”
Farrara pleaded guilty before Erie County Judge Thomas P. Franczyk.
“He waived indictment,” Sedita said. “Rather than go through the process, he decided he wanted to plead.”
Farrara’s attorney, John K. Jordan, declined to comment on the case.
Farrara was intermittently employed as an assistant wrestling coach for the Eden Central School District.
School officials discovered his inappropriate relationships earlier this year from conversations posted on social media. Both of the teenage victims were confronted by school officials and disclosed their relationships with Farrara, the District Attorney’s Office said.
Farrara, who left his position as a coach in 2012, could face up to eight years in prison when sentenced by Franczyk on Oct. 23, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The case was handled by Detective John H. McCarthy of the Eden Police Department, Investigator Christopher J. Wysocki of the State Police and Assistant District Attorney Liam A. Dwyer.
