Recently, in the process of painting his abstract pieces, Mark Palmer noticed something strange: The structure of a human face would sometimes emerge, as if on its own, from his otherwise freehand paint strokes. Rather than trying to repress the unexpected appearance of a figure in his abstract work, Palmer went with it.
The result is a body of work on view in Studio Hart (65 Allen St.) through Aug. 31. It features Palmer’s recent explorations of that recurrent form in his painting. In a statement, he called the show, titled “Facing Facts,” “an exploration into the ‘raw emotional world’ of mental illness and disorder.”
The show opened Aug. 2 as part of Allentown First Fridays. For more information, call 536-8337 or visit www.studiohart.com.
