Elizabeth P. “Betty” Howard, a registered nurse and owner of a certified diabetes practice, died Sunday in McAuley Residence, Kenmore. She was 76.
Born Elizabeth Pantuso in Bradford, Pa., she attended schools there.
She came to Buffalo in the 1950s to attend Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1958.
In 1991, she received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from D’Youville College.
She had a 30-year career as a registered nurse, employed at Mercy Hospital and Sisters Hospital, retiring in 2001.
Mrs. Howard also owned and operated Western New York Diabetes Educators.
She worked there up until about six months before her death.
She was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in North Buffalo, where she was a lector.
An avid camper, Mrs. Howard spent summers with her husband, Jonathan, at their home in Sherkston Shores in Ontario for the past 45 years.
In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by two daughters, Lisette Williams and Mary Beth Coates; two sisters, Alyce Grady and Nancy Roberts; and a brother, Joseph Pantuso.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Rose of Lima Church, 500 Parker Ave.
