Students with developmental disabilities at the Heritage Centers Maryvale School in Cheektowaga took part in a special celebration Thursday to thank the John R. Oishei Foundation for a $650,000 challenge grant that will improve the school building.

The grant has been matched by other donors and work will begin immediately to install new windows and a new heating and air conditioning system.

“We’re also very appreciative of the many wonderful foundations and private donors who helped us match the challenge grant,” says Michael Gross, executive director of Heritage Centers. “We have many students with severe respiratory challenges, medical frailties and other special needs that need better air quality and temperature controls than we currently have in our 60-year-old facility.”
