Central District police hope that video surveillance will lead them to the gunman who fired a shot at a customer in a High Street delicatessen Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after 1 p.m., a man wearing all-dark clothing displayed a handgun and began shooting at the customer toward the rear of the deli, at High and Maple streets, according to police.

The shot damaged a cooler and at least one witness was knocked to the ground by people fleeing from the store after the shot rang out. Evidence has been recovered, said police, who are checking video from both a camera in the store and a city camera across the street.
