As part of an expanding effort to improve the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood, the state has awarded a $200,000 grant to help 20 homeowners fix up their houses.
“This is a neighborhood revitalization one house at a time,” said Sen. Tim Kennedy who made the announcement Friday by joint press release with Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes.
People can apply for this money at the Broadway Fillmore Neighborhood Housing Services office at 780 Fillmore Avenue, or by calling 852-3130.
To help, the M&T Foundation has contributed another $20,000 to BFNHS, which has just hired two new staff members who will help people apply for and use the grant money. Funds are intended to help with general repairs like replacing a roof, stabilizing foundations and upgrading windows.
“As an investment is made in any three homes in a city block, it has a direct impact on the property values of that entire city block,” Kennedy said.
