The news hit just prior to July 4, that Bob Dylan has parted ways with esteemed blues guitarist Duke Robillard rather abruptly after only a few months. Robillard made his debut as a member of the Dylan group at a recent show in Alumni Arena at the University at Buffalo. and judging by the sound of things, was poised to make a lengthy and considerable mark on the Dylan sound. But the only constants in Dylan-land are constant change and touring, and so Robillard was out and Charlie Sexton – whom Robillard was replacing when he joined the band – was back in.
Happily, Sexton has always made a significantly positive contribution to the Dylan band, and having him back should shake things up in a positive way.
