DUNKIRK – The city of Dunkirk Firefighters will host a charity hose race to include area fire departments.  

Approval for the event, to be held Aug. 17 as a benefit for a local resident who is a cancer patient was on the agenda for city council members Tuesday at the regular meeting. 

Just three council members attended the regular session. Councilman Michael Michalski chaired the meeting with Stacy Szukala and Andy Gonzalez attending.  Council members Stephanie Kiyak and Bill Rivera as well as Mayor A.J. Dolce were absent. 

In other business, Steve Rees,  a Dove Street resident, thanked the council members for approving the recent garden walk. He said about 120 people attended the event. 

City council members acted on several requests for loud speaker permits for outdoor parties.

The council members asked that a request from the Fredonia Family Church to hold outdoor services on the city’s waterfront on Aug. 24 be amended.  The date is the same date as a large tri-athalon event at the harbor.  Council members suggested that other outdoor sites be offered to the church so services do not interfere with the athletic event.
