Explore Buffalo is offering a chance to head to the top of two of the Silo City grain elevator complexes.

The “Silo City: Vertical” tour will be offered on June 14 and June 20. Approximately two and a half hours in length, each will start at 10 a.m. at 120 Childs St.

“Silo City: Vertical” will take participants to the top of the American and Perot grain elevator complexes and cover their history and mechanics, as well as the malt production process in the Perot malt house. A look at some of the regenerative projects ongoing at Silo City will also be included.

This tour is not recommended for anyone with a fear of heights. Participants must be physically able to go up approximately 100 feet (ten stories) of stairs and a short interior ladder to reach the top of the elevators, and then return down.

Participants also should wear comfortable walking shoes – no sandals or open-toed shoes will be permitted, and it will proceed rain or shine. Cameras are encouraged.

Tickets are $45, or $40 with valid student ID. The price includes lunch on the dock along the Buffalo River following the tour.

Space is limited for each tour, and reservations are required. Visit explorebuffalo.org or call (716) 245-3032 to make a reservation.
