A fireworks display set to music, children’s activities and a performance by Lance Diamond will take place at Canalside on Friday.
The Fourth of July celebration is organized by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation, though restaurateur Russell J. Salvatore is presenting the fireworks display, and has arranged accompanying patriotic music, which can be heard on 104.1 WHTT-FM.
“I cannot wait to push the button and light up the skies for us all to enjoy,” Salvatore said.
A color guard with Junior ROTC will take place at 9:15 p.m. Friday, followed by a flag folding ceremony with Taps at 9:30 p.m. Fireworks begin at approximately 10:15 p.m.
Explore & More Children’s Museum will offer children’s activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other children’s activities will follow until 7 p.m., including arts and crafts, face painting and a puppet show.
Diamond takes the stage at 7 p.m. Preceeding him are the George Scott Big Band from 2 to 3 p.m., the Buffalo Niagara Concert Band from 3:30 to 4:40 p.m. and Big City Horns from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The event is free, though outside food and drinks are not permitted. Food trucks and Clinton’s Dish will serve food, and soda, beer and wine will be on sale.
Folding chairs and blankets are welcome.
In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled to Saturday.
