The Depew Volunteer Fire Department is officially sponsoring the American Lung Association Fight for Air Climb: Buffalo, next March.
About 500 climbers are expected to take to the stairs of One HSBC Center, located in the heart of downtown Buffalo, as part of the fourth annual Fight for Air Climb: Buffalo, to be held March 8.
The event hopes to raise $120,000 to directly benefit the American Lung Association of the Northeast. The returning team from the Depew Volunteer Fire Dept. has “stepped up” to be next year’s official sponsor of the event.
Funds raised are to combat lung disease and air pollution.
The Depew team, captained each year by Dawn Gauthier, is consistently one of the largest teams and is known for its fundraising success. In its history with the event, the Depew team has raised more than $2,500 to benefit the American Lung Association of the Northeast.
“The department has always encouraged our members to participate in the Fight for Air Climb,” said Assistant Chief Scott Wegst. “It is such a great cause and so many of our members feel a personal connection because of various friends and family members being affected by lung disease. This year, we will be sponsoring the Firefighter Challenge because we know what a great event this is, and we want to showcase that, and help it become even larger, in any way we can.”
Additional sponsors for the 2014 Fight for Air Climb: Buffalo, include Seneca One Realty LLC, owner and management of One HSBC Center, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Poland Spring. Kindred Healthcare serves as national corporate team sponsor.
