Lazy summer Sunday afternoons are made for jazz. And the Central Park Grill is filling that need in a pattern that is emerging as every other Sunday. Best of all, there’s no cover.

The featured group is Western New York’s Odyssey Jazz Ensemble, with guest singers Pamela Reese Smith of Rochester, and/or Buffalo singer Inez Kimble. There will be music Sunday, and then again on July 20, and that every-other week groove is expected to continue through August.

The CPG, which reportedly dates to the days of the Pony Express, tends to be underappreciated when the talk turns to Buffalo’s historic bars. Its kitchen, too, does not often get the recognition it deserves. Offerings include fried bologna, a shrimp hoagie and – wait for it – a deep-fried hot dog.

A narrow, charming outdoor patio allows you to hear the music and enjoy the urban landscape.

The Central Park Grill is located at 2519 Main St., next to the Tri-Main Center. For info, call 836-9466.
