The Minority Bar Association of Western New York announced ratings of the following Erie County judicial candidates for state, county and Buffalo City Court posts in the upcoming elections:

New York State Supreme Court: Dennis Glascott, qualified; Jeffrey Marion, qualified; Mark Montour, well qualified; E. Jeannette Ogden, superior.

Erie County Surrogate: Barbara Howe, superior.

Erie County Family Court: Mary Carney, well qualified; Paul Crapsi Jr., qualified; Joseph Jarzembek, qualified; Deanne Tripi, qualified.

Buffalo City Court: Debra Givens, superior; Kevin Keane, well qualified.

The organization’s rating of candidates is based on the evaluation of a written questionnaire, a personal interview, a survey of the organization’s members and other members of the local bar, according to Stephanie J. Calhoun, the bar group’s president.

She said ratings are also based on the recommendations of the organization’s Judicial Ratings Committee, with the final vote made by the organization’s Executive Board.

She said the Judicial Ratings Committee and Executive Board consider qualities including, but not limited to, integrity; experience and related qualification factors; professionalism; reputation; temperament; community service; fairness; attitude; and punctuality.

Sensitivity and commitment to minority issues and diversity are also strongly considered, she said.
