NORTH TONAWANDA – Michelle L. Johnston, who faces 11 felony counts of arson, including a fire she allegedly started at her own Fifth Avenue home and falsely reporting the incident, appeared Thursday with her attorney Herbert Greenman in North Tonawanda City Court.
She continues to be held without bail. A return court date for a felony hearing was set for 2 p.m. Aug. 1 in North Tonawanda City Court.
Johnston, 41, of Fifth Avenue was charged July 9 in nine counts of arson, including allegedly setting fire eight times since June 20 to an 82-year-old woman’s house who lives next door. Police have found no motive for the actions and said there was no animosity between Johnston and her neighbor.
She was out on bail when police received reports of two more fires, one at her own house at 15 Fifth Ave., which she reported to police. Johnston was arrested and faces new charges, and she is being held without bail in Niagara County Jail.
