Put away the beach blanket and dig out a sweater, at least for a couple days.

A flow of cool air will settle in over Western New York today, the National Weather Service says, producing lots of clouds and holding afternoon highs down in the mid 60s.

Tonight could see thermometers dip to about 50 degrees in parts of the Southern Tier, low to mid 50s elsewhere. With the chilly air crossing warm Lake Erie waters, there’s a chance of scattered lake-effect showers.

Friday should be better, forecasters say, with highs approaching 70 under mostly sunny skies. Beach weather is due back again on Saturday, with near-normal temperatures in the mid to upper 70s and sunshine giving way to clouds later in the day.
