Trick-or-treaters venturing outside for Halloween tonight may get a treat, in terms of weather, before things get tricky later on.

Temperatures today are expected to reach the mid to upper 60s.

Periods of rain are expected, but a washout isn’t.

“We think there’s going to be a decent break,” said Jon Hitchcock of the National Weather Service in Buffalo, referring to the early evening hours when the children will be making the rounds in their neighborhoods.

If any rain falls, it should be light, he added.

Then a strong cold front will move into the region late tonight, with winds of 30 to 40 mph, gusting as high as 55 to 60 mph, through Friday.

A high wind watch has been issued, effective from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

The strongest gusts will come with the front and behind it, Hitchcock said.

The forecast calls for temperatures to fall into the 40s Friday, and any precipitation that falls should be rain – not snow.
