Lisa Yaeger and two of her dogs set out on a mission every day at 5:30 a.m. Yaeger rolls down her car windows, the pups stick their heads into the morning air, and they all look for Rosie Mae – the fourth member of their family.

Rosie is a Brittany spaniel who has been missing since she ran out the front door of her Amherst Street home May 9.

“I didn’t realize it for about 15 minutes,” Yaeger said. “She got a head start on me, and I have been chasing her ever since.”

Rosie has been spotted five times around Buffalo since then – most recently Wednesday night at the corner of Main and Kensington – and Yaeger has been using social media to communicate with the Buffalo community. So far, Rosie’s picture has garnered 200 shares on Facebook, Yaeger estimates.

“People go out, look for her and text me and tell me how it went. That’s been happening every day,” said Yaeger, whose phone number is attached to the photo. “Every day, multiple people have contacted me who I don’t even know.”

Yaeger believes Rosie has been wandering around a four-mile radius. She was once spotted near Sisters Hospital and another time near Canisius College.

Rosie is a rescue dog Yaeger took in a week before Christmas 2013. The rescue of Rosie’s group in July 2013 was a national story, as a retired sheriff’s deputy in Louisiana was hoarding 113 Brittany spaniels and breeding them. When Yaeger read the story online, she was excited to have the opportunity to again adopt a Brittany spaniel – her third in 35 years.

“Rosie Mae has had a hell of a life,” Yaeger said. “Rosie Mae spent the first two and a half years of her life being bred to have expensive little Brittany puppies. And I don’t want to see her spend one more minute outside trying to figure out where her next meal is coming from. It’s a horrible existence.”

Yaeger encourages anyone who spots Rosie or has information regarding her whereabouts to contact her at (716) 803-3557. Rosie also is listed on the WNY Lost & Found Pets Facebook page.
