Icy conditions combined with high winds cut the signal for WKBW-TV, Channel 7, to a portion of viewers from Monday night through noon Tuesday, reported Michael Nurse, station president and general manager.
“It started breaking up around 10 p.m.,” Nurse said, adding that service was restored shortly after noon Tuesday.
Subscribers of Dish Network and DIRECTV were affected. Nurse pointed to moisture in the transmission line atop the former HSBC Center building as the source of the problem.
“We have an old system we are trying to replace,” he said. “The frustrating part is that we’ve been waiting for a year for approval.”
Complicating the approval process, he said, is the station’s proximity to Canada and the international regulations governing digital transmission.
