More than half of Western New York homeowners have registered for their Basic STAR property tax exemptions, the state Tax Department announced Thursday.
Registration is highest in Erie and Niagara counties, which both have 54 percent.
Chautauqua and Wyoming counties have 53 percent registration so far, tax officials said, while Genesee County has 52 percent, and Orleans County has 51 percent.
Lagging behind are Cattaraugus County with 48 percent and Allegany County with 47 percent.
Nearly 90 percent of the registrations have been submitted online at www.tax.ny.gov.
The process takes two to four minutes.
Taxpayers also can register by calling (518) 457-2036.
