WHEATFIELD – The committee that controls the allocation of Niagara River Greenway money in Niagara County has approved funding for three park projects in Lewiston.

The Host Communities Standing Committee approved a $41,000 Pletcher Road project involving the construction of a concession area within an existing building at the town park.

Sanborn Park, on Elm Street, is adjacent to the Sanborn Fire Hall. The $43,500 grant will replace old and unsafe playground equipment with new “toddler-friendly” gear, while an asphalt basketball court, new tables and benches and a walking path also are planned.

The Greenway fund will pay for $41,000 worth of work in Colonial Village Park, next to Lewiston Fire Company No. 2 on Route 31. The plan includes a new metal-roofed picnic shelter, another toddler-friendly playground and replacement of Austrian pine trees that have been hit with a fungal infection.

The committee had to delay action from its Feb. 11 meeting because the New York Power Authority voted against the three projects. Committee rules require a delay of at least 30 days if a project is not unanimously approved on the first vote; then a majority vote is enough.
