Western New York Independent Living and the Buffalo Bills Alumni Association have partnered to present “A Night for Independence Gala,” to benefit Independence Express, which provides transportation services for people with disabilities, at 6 p.m. Saturday at Seneca Niagara Casino, Niagara Falls. The gala will feature an autograph table with Buffalo Bills alumni, auction and gift basket items, live entertainment by Taylor Made Jazz, and a full-course dinner. An honorary award will be presented to Adam Page, Para-Olympic medalist, for his involvement in the community. Cost is $75 per ticket.

Touching Bases Softball League of Erie County Inc., an adult softball league for individuals with disabilities, is accepting registration for the 2014 season. Athletes 18 years and older are welcome to play on organized, competitive softball teams, in a supportive, friendly, growth-producing, positive and safe environment. Team jerseys and hats are provided. Engraved trophies will be presented at a banquet at the end of the season. Practices take place in mid-July and season play begins in August. As part of its Dialogues on disABILITY Speaker Series, the Museum of disABILITY History, a project of People Inc., will host Susan Conners, author and founder of the Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater New York State, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the museum at 3826 Main St. The presentation will focus on strategies and techniques for working with persons with Tourette syndrome and its associated neurological disorders. Parent Network of Western New York and Early Childhood Direction Center offers a support group for families of individuals with developmental disabilities. The group meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the last Tuesday of every month at Early Childhood Direction Center/People Inc., 3131 Sheridan Drive, Amherst. Families can meet and network with other parents, caregivers and families, share thoughts on topics of interest, ask questions and receive support. Open to families of children of all ages. VA Western New York Healthcare System in partnership with Mac Alpine Presbyterian Church offers an amputee support group meeting at 2 p.m. Friday in the health care center, Room 503, 3495 Bailey Ave. The group will meet every last Friday of each month.
