OAHiiO (The Good Path), a member of Western New York Independent Living family of agencies, is hosting a two-day summit on aging and independence from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Conference and Event Center in Niagara Falls. The forum will identify, examine and evaluate practices in research, public policy and service, addressing present and future needs of older Americans and people with disabilities. Keynote speaker Anna Liotta will address “What Makes the Generation Tick and What Ticks Them Off,” following a Native American presentation and dance. Partnering organizations for the summit include Erie County Senior Services, Niagara County Office on Aging, Independent Living of Niagara County, Independent Living of Genesee Region, Mental Health Peer Connection, Cantalician Center, Amherst Center for Senior Services and People Inc. Epilepsy Association of Western New York, 339 Elmwood Ave., offers a free wellness program for individuals diagnosed with epilepsy or neurological disorders and their caregivers. The nine-week program runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through May and June at the Elmwood location. Rivendell Recreation Center, a therapeutic horseback riding program in South Wales, has limited the number of challenged riders per riding session this year in order to better serve the rider and their family. Class sizes are limited to two riders in order to personalize any physical therapy required as well as the riding lesson itself. Aspire of Western New York is hosting its second annual “Cigar Smoker Gift Gathering” fundraiser event from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Alternative Brews, located at 3488 Sheridan Drive in Amherst. Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled has an overnight children’s respite center in the Town of Tonawanda. The home is dedicated to serving children and families of Buffalo and surrounding areas. Overnight respite will be offered at the house on weekends, expanding to mid-week in the near future. After-school services are available for adolescents with developmental disabilities to learn basic home, self-care and job readiness skills preparing them for independent living and adult responsibilities.
