The Buffalo Zoo wants you to turn off non-essential lights, appliances and electronics for an hour next week to help save polar bears in the wild.

The zoo says that “Power Down for Polar Bears,” held in conjunction with the worldwide “Earth Hour” from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. March 29, will reduce carbon emissions and slow the melting of sea ice, which wild bears depend on to survive.

Those who take part in “Power Down for Polar Bears,” which runs from Sunday to March 29, can win a prize if they register their participation on the zoo’s website,
