The Kaegebein Playground Committee will hold a Kickoff to Summer, featuring several bounce houses, dance lessons, face painting, a sports contest and an outdoor movie, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the school, 1690 Love Road.
Cost is $5 per child, who must be accompanied by adults. Parents can attend free. Hot dogs, pizza, ice cream, popcorn and beverages will be sold separately. Proceeds will help build a new playground. All are welcome. In case of rain, the event will move indoors.

• Francine “Fran” McMahon, owner of McMahon’s Family Restaurant, 1849 Grand Island Blvd., will receive the Eighth Annual Effective Leadership Award for Women in Business on Wednesday evening at a dinner meeting of the Grand Island Professional Women’s Chapter, New York State Women, Inc.
The dinner will be held at 6 p.m. in Elldins at River Oaks, 201 Whitehaven Road. The award will be presented by Dr. Sherry Bradford, president and chief scientific officers of AccuTheranostics Inc.
McMahon, who has four children with Fragile X syndrome, a form of autism, has provided training for special education students in her restaurant and is one of the founders of the Miracle League of Grand Island, which gives children with disabilities a chance to play baseball.
• A Super Cruise Night to benefit the Crohn’s Colitis Foundation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Adrian’s Custard and Beef, 2335 Grand Island Blvd.
