First he failed to perform $1,000 worth of landscaping work paid for by a Sloan resident, then the check he wrote to reimburse the customer bounced, according to Cheektowaga police.

A West Seneca man was sentenced Thursday to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to issuing a bad check.

Kenneth Bartnik, 30, of Indian Church Road, was arrested by Cheektowaga police after failing to do the work at a Roland Street residence in 2011. When he wrote a check to return the victim’s money, there were insufficient funds in his account, police said.

After repeated attempts to get the customer’s money back, police said a warrant was issued for Bartnik, who was sentenced Thursday by Town Justice Paul Piotrowski.
