A whipped cream-topped specialty coffee could be the finishing touch on a trio of hotels built across the street from Buffalo Niagara International Airport in recent years.

Benderson Development Co. has submitted plans for a freestanding building at 4243-4271 Genesee St. that would feature a Starbucks store. During the past five years, the site has become home to a 144-room Fairfield Inn & Suites; a 139-room Courtyard by Marriott; and a 119-room Townplace Suites.

“At the time of the development of the hotels, an area near the front of the site, along Genesee Street, was intentionally left undeveloped to allow for the future development of retail/restaurant uses which would complement the hotel complex,” Benderson’s James A. Boglioli said in a recent letter to Town of Cheektowaga lawmakers.

Starbucks would occupy 1,950 square feet on the eastern side of the building and would include a drive-thru service window. Plans also call for fenced-in, landscaped patios on the western and eastern ends of the building.

“The building will be an attractive addition to the Genesee Street corridor,” Boglioli wrote.

Benderson has applied for a special use permit for the drive-thru feature. The proposal is expected to be before the town’s Planning Board on June 12.

The Town Board eventually will vote on site plan approval and the special use permit.
