A Cheektowaga man who pleaded guilty to charges related to assaulting his former girlfriend was sentenced to 60 days in jail, town police announced Monday.

Christopher Barber, 40, of Elaine Court, pleaded guilty to charges of assault and criminal obstruction of breathing stemming from the February attack. He was sentenced Friday by Town Justice Paul S. Piotrowski.

Police said Officer Brian Bzibziak arrested Barber after he attacked the woman, threw her against a wall and the floor, then choked her. Barber originally was charged with criminal mischief, as well.
