A 66-year-old Cheektowaga man has been charged in connection with a child pornography investigation, town police said today.

Michael W. Lafferty, of Raymond Avenue, was charged last week with a felony count of possessing obscene material, which police said involves sexually explicit photographs of young children on his computer.

The investigation began in March, after an incident in Akron where Lafferty was accused of inappropriate behavior, according to Assistant Police Chief Jim Speyer.

“That investigation led to our detectives checking his computer,” Speyer said.

An investigation of the Akron incident didn’t lead to charges, Speyer said.

Following arraignment before Town Justice Paul S. Piotrowski, Lafferty was sent to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $5,000 bail. He has since been released.
