A more than yearlong investigation by the Cheektowaga Police concluded last Thursday with the arrest of 40-year-old registered sex offender Matthew J. Borkowski.
Borkowski, currently registered as a Level 3 sexually violent offender, was charged with a criminal sexual act in the first degree and aggravated sexual abuse in the third degree. The victims range in age from 13 to 17.
The investigation started in July 2013 when residents of the Village of Sloan reported that they suspected a sex offender moved into the area. Investigators found that Borkowski had, in fact, moved into Sloan without notifying authorities. Further investigation revealed that Borkowski was involved in various criminal sexual acts.
Borkowski is currently in the Erie County Holding Center following his arraignment.
