A Cheektowaga man was caught in the act of stealing construction materials from an Elma business about 6 a.m. Thursday, Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard said.
John Andrisani, 36, was surprised by Erie County sheriff’s deputies as he loaded construction material into his truck from the storage yard of Greenauer Development, 2699 Transit Road, deputies said. Fifteen metal pipes were in Andrisani’s truck when confronted, said deputies, who noted ndrisani stole items from the business early Wednesday and sold them to a local scrapyard.
Andrisani was charged with attempted grand larceny and trespassing in the theft, or attempted theft, of $18,000 worth of construction materials. Arraigned in Elma Town Court, was released on his own recognizance pending further court proceedings.
Howard, meanwhile, warned businesses to properly secure materials routinely stolen and sold as scrap.
