FREWSBURG – Two men who lost their lives in farming accidents last year will be among those remembered when the Chautauqua County Workers’ Memorial Committee holds its 14th annual Workers’ Memorial Day at 11 a.m. Saturday at the committee’s Memorial Site at Erlandson Overview Park on Oak Hill Road.
Speakers will include Richard E. Lipsitz Jr., president of the Western New York Labor Council; State Sen. Cathy Young, R-Olean; and Jacqueline Chiarot, regional director for Rep. Tom Reed, R-Corning. The public is invited. Refreshments will be served.
Workers’ Memorial Day honors the memory of 139 Chautauqua County workers who died on the job, in the line of duty or from job-related causes since 1980. Newly added will be James D. Hall, 60, of West Ellicott, who died last May when his tractor overturned, and Michael E. Travis, 67, of the Town of Pomfret, who died in November following a tractor accident.
