SILVER CREEK – School Board members were updated last week on construction projects under way inside and outside at the Silver Creek Central School Campus, School Superintendent Daniel Ljiljanich said.
The district has had extensive work done on parking lots and driveways. Drainage and paving are included in the project, the large semi-circle driveway in front of the high school section of the building is still under construction. Ljiljanich expects it to be finished by the end of September.
School bus traffic has not been impacted by the construction since buses are dropping off students at the side entrance near the band room and cafeteria. Ljiljanich said that parents have been cooperative and are using the designated “drop off zone” away from the bus area.
An additional 50 parking spaces were created in a new lot at the school.
The superintendent also said some electrical work is still being completed inside the school but it is not interfering with classroom instruction time.
He said that some outdoor work will continue, as weather permits, on the baseball and softball fields on the campus.
After the current phase is complete, construction will continue in the spring of 2014 at the school.
The superintendent said the board of education will next be looking at the comprehensive education plan for 2013-14. Attendance will be one of the focuses for the plan. He said the school district has a lower daily attendance rate than other schools in the county.
Also several community classes are being offered at the school this fall, in addition to regular classes. A complete schedule of adult-level programs is available on the school website, silvercreekschools.org.
