SILVER CREEK – Members of the board of education at Silver Creek Central School met this week to finalize the 2014-2015 budget. The spending plan to go before the voters next month is $22,447,044 and stays within the state tax cap. The board members also authorized a proposition to approve a vehicle purchase utilizing funds from the capital reserve for vehicles in the amount of $108,987.
The estimated total school tax levy of $5,777,850 will be about a two percent increase over the current levy.
If approved, the budget would have a 50 cent increase on each $1,000 of assessed property for owners in the town of Hanover. The tax rate would be $18.10. An average home assessed at $60,000 would see about $30 more in their tax bill.
A public presentation on the budget is planned for May 13 at 7 p.m. in the high school library. The general election day is May 20. Two school board members will also be listed on the ballot.
