SHERIDAN – Drainage problems for residents along Route 20 were the main topic for Sheridan Town Board members at their regular meeting Thursday in the community center.

Snow melt and rainwater flooded town offices on Route 20. There was some damage to the basement under the offices.

Several residents reported that their basements have flooded and they had to repair furnaces and hot water tanks.

Sheridan Highway Superintendent Jeff Feinen said the rainwater and drainage problems were exceptional this year. He said that water problems caused him to close Cook Road for a while and that water damage occurred on East Middle Road and Meyers Road.

Town Supervisor Louis Delmonte said he has made a phone call and written a letter to state Department of Transportation representatives asking for help with the problem.

Delmonte said the state representative said he could not find records of the state drainage system.

Chautauqua County Legislator Terry Niebel, R-Sheridan, attended the meeting and said he would bring the concerns to the county Department of Public Works to see if there could be any help for the problems.
