FORESTVILLE – Sharing sports programs with neighboring districts has provided many more programs for students in the Forestville School District.

Athletic Director Scott Hazelton, speaking at the regular meeting of the Board of Education on Thursday in the school library, said there are 13 varsity and junior varsity programs that have provided new sports opportunities for students.

The combined school teams have won awards in several areas, including bowling and baseball.

Hazelton said that spring sports, including cross country and lacrosse, have also been added and are shared between Silver Creek and Forestville students on the teams.

Forestville and Silver Creek also share with Dunkirk and Fredonia to field a combined varsity swimming team.

Hazelton said that Forestville and Silver Creek have been successfully sharing for several years. “We were on the forefront of sharing athletic programs, and it has shown many benefits,” he said.

In other matters, the board recognized the following students with quarterly “character” awards supported by the clergy from area churches: Emily Gunther, Hannah Fetterick, Trent Hartloff, Emily Narraway, Logan Youngberg and Shamus O’Connor.

The board unanimously approved a high school technology club. Matthew Wisniewski will be the club’s unpaid adviser.

The next budget planning meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 27 in the library.
