JAMESTOWN – Sen. Charles E. Schumer has sent a letter to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy urging approval of a $200,000 federal grant to identify and assess priority sites in a brownfield area in Jamestown.

Schumer noted that the Chadakoin West and Chadakoin Riverfront areas, former industrial properties which together comprise 1,353 acres and include the entire Chadakoin River area in the city, are potential sites for new companies and development, but are likely to contain a number of hazardous materials.

“With nearby redevelopment success stories, like the former Erie-Lackawanna Train Station, which was redeveloped into a multi-modal transportation hub,” Schumer wrote, “the Chadakoin area is primed for success and this grant will help move Jamestown closer to that goal.”
