FORESTVILLE – A new mayor and two new trustees officially took over at a reorganizational session held Monday in the village hall.

Former Trustee Kevin Johnson was sworn in as the new mayor. He ran unopposed and replaces Linda Aures. Johnson, Gary Belote and Brian Schneider all took the oath of office as administered by Hanover Town Clerk Janine Salzman. Schneider was appointed as deputy mayor.

Among the routine business items approved at the session was a change in banks. Community Bank was selected as the village’s official bank. The village had been doing business with Evans National Bank.

Evans recently filed a procedure to foreclose on a note with the village. The official procedure, known as an Article 78 procedure, demands payment on a five-year short term note that was taken out to pay for the demolition of a building in 2009.

A budget with a tax rate more than three times higher than previously proposed is expected to be discussed at tonight’s budget hearing at 7 p.m.

Village board members had to include repayment of the bank note as well as costs for a new water improvement project in the new budget. The village board will also hold a regular meeting tonight.

Also approved Monday was the appointment of Frank Schneider as village historian for a one-year term.
