FORESTVILLE – A task force to consider dissolving the village will begin researching the issue with the goal of offering options by year’s end, officials said.

During a meeting of the Forestville Village Board on Tuesday, Mayor Kevin Johnson introduced Chautauqua County Legislator George Borrello. R-Silver Creek, who will head the task force.

The county executive, representatives of the Town of Hanover, Mayor Kevin Johnson and Trustee Gary Belote also are on the committee.

Borrello said he hopes the state Department of State will help foot the cost of the study,

Johnson read a statement about the village’s problems – particularly financial. This year, he noted, the village was faced with paying back large loans to a bank.

“I believe some of the problem comes from its citizens’ trust in elected officials – which is normally a good thing – but in our case maybe went too far,” said Johnson.

He added that the village will implement new systems of checks and balances to help with financial issues.
