DUNKIRK – Life rings, throw ropes and life jackets will be in police patrol vehicles thanks to the generosity of a local business, Barts Cove and Marina, Police Chief David Ortolano Tuesday in City Hall said Tuesday at a meeting with the city’s public safety committee.

“This equipment will give us an advantage to have safety equipment quickly at hand in the event of a water emergency,” said the chief. “I have been in the water more than once in my career and didn’t have any of this equipment at hand to help,” he said.

The city also has personal watercraft used for water patrol and rescue.
