MAYVILLE – A drug drop box has been installed in the lobby of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office here, Sheriff Joseph A. Gerace announced.
The box, acquired through a grant from the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, will be available 24 hours a day for anonymous drops at no cost to the donors. Both prescription and illegal drugs will be accepted at the drop box but no needles or other sharp objects will be acceptable.
“The proper disposal of prescription drugs will help prevent these substances from falling into the wrong hands and is much safer for the environment then to have the drugs flushed down a toilet or place into a landfill,” Sheriff Gerace said.
The sheriff said he has already received funding for a second drug drop box which is slated to be installed in a location in the northern part of the county.
