DUNKIRK – A request for financial assistance for a proposed 40,000-square-foot hotel on Vineyard Drive in Dunkirk was the subject of a hearing by the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency on Thursday.
Dunkirk Kasturi Ltd. has submitted plans for the project. Pravin Patel has an interest in developing the property and already has partial ownership in the Best Western and Comfort Inn hotels in Dunkirk.
There were no negative comments at the hearing.
Councilman Robert L. Penharlow said the town would like to encourage more development.
The initial proposal for the hotel was submitted to the IDA several months ago, but final plans have not yet been made public. The property is on Vineyard Drive near several established businesses.
Kristine R. Morabito, IDA special projects manager, said that the formal proposal to consider offering financial assistance to the developer could come before IDA board members at their regular meeting Tuesday. Other meetings, including one with the Dunkirk Planning Board, would need to be scheduled, she said.
Morabito said Patel has indicated that he would like to begin work this year if all approvals are in place. Morabito said she knew that environmental studies on the 3-acre parcel have already started.
