MAYVILLE – The four locations where Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies and others will collect old, unused and unwanted prescriptions drugs with no charge to the donor, were announced Monday by Sheriff Joseph Gerace.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday the drugs will be collected, no questions asked, at the Chautauqua Mall parking lot in front of the JCPenny store on Fairmount Avenue in Lakewood; the Alstar Ambulance building on Monroe Street in Dunkirk; the Foote Avenue Plaza in Jamestown, and at Westfield Family Physicians on Main Street in Westfield.
Gerace said the nationwide event being sponsored by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration with local officials aims at trying to prevent increased pill abuse, overdoses and theft of drugs. “Prescription drug abuse, misuse and accidental poisoning are a critical problem within our community,” the sheriff said. “Take-Back Day is an excellent program to rid our community of these potentially dangerous drugs and have it done with no adverse impact on our environment,” he added.
