MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Legislature will hold two hearings on the proposed 2014 $64 million county budget on Wednesday, convening at 2 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. in the chambers of the Gerace Office Building.
The budget was presented to the Legislature by County Executive Gregory Edwards last month and it has been the topic of committee meetings during the past few weeks.
Edwards said his proposal came in below the state property tax cap and still manages to increase funding for the Office for the Aging and for road and bridge repairs.
The spending plan submitted to the Legislature would be about $2 million higher than the current budget. It calls for an increase of 24 cents on the tax rate from $9.15 per $1,000 assessed value to $9.39.
The Legislature will meet again at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30 when they will consider selling the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk to a private health care company.
