LITTLE VALLEY – Four horses that had gotten loose from a pasture died this morning when they were hit by a sport utility vehicle whose driver fled the scene, Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies reported.
It happened shortly after 2 a.m. on Route 353 in the Town of Little Valley and involved a vehicle registered to David E. Mohr of Cattaraugus; the license plates are suspended, deputies said. The vehicle caught fire and was destroyed.
The horses had gotten loose from The Crosspatch, a nearby horse ranch.
The road was closed for more than three hours for the investigation and cleanup.
