SALAMANCA – The Salamanca City Central School District has announced that the annual board election and budget vote will take place from noon to 9 p.m. May 20 in the Junior/Senior High School Gymnasium at 50 Iroquois Drive
The top two vote-earners will fill the School Board seats now occupied by Robert Crandall and Theresa Ray.
Each term is for five years, starting July 1, 2014, and expiring June 30, 2019.
Those interested in running for one of the two board positions are required to pick up petitions at the district clerk’s office at the Junior/Senior High School.
Petitions must be turned in to the district clerk with the required 100 signatures by 5 p.m. April 30.
Those who are unable to vote in person can receive applications for an absentee ballot at the Salamanca City Central School District clerk’s office during regular business hours. Questions can be addressed to Janet L. Koch at 945-2403 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Candidates must be able to read and write, be a qualified voter and at least 18 years old. A candidate must be a resident of the district for at least a year prior to running for a board position. Board members are not allowed to reside with other board members, nor are they allowed to be an employee of the school board for which they are running.
In addition, Native Americans who are properly registered and residing on the Allegany Territory in the Steamburg or Coldspring area for a period of 30 days before the election, are eligible to vote in the district election despite the areas not being in the school district.
