The Pike Company, based in Rochester, has been named general contractor to oversee the completion of historically aligned canals, paths and pedestrian bridges being built at the former Memorial Auditorium site.

The company was chosen by Travelers Insurance, the bonding agent for DiPizio Construction, the previous general contractor removed in the spring by Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp.

That decision was upheld in State Supreme Court, but DiPizio has responded by filing three lawsuits against the waterfront agency, individuals and a consultant on the project.

Work is expected to resume at the site before Sept. 30.
