A backup generator is providing electricity to the Peace Bridge, which has been coping with power problems that began early Wednesday, officials said.
National Grid crews remained on the scene late Wednesday to ensure that the electricty remained on. The crews also are attempting to isolate the problem, which has been traced to an electrical cable beneath Busti Avenue,
At about 4 a.m. Tuesday, Peace Bridge neighbors noticed the power went off briefly, and was restored by a backup generator that was already on-site for such an emergency.
National Grid officials said that when the backup generator shut down briefly later on, another backup generator was shipped to the scene as a precaution. Utility crews expected to be working into early Thursday.
So far, traffic has been slowed somewhat but no major problems have developed, officials said.
