Tickets are on sale for the Lockport Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 6 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the Lockport Town and Country Club. Tickets are $30 and available in the main office of Lockport High School or at Sullivan’s Hair Design on East Avenue. This year’s inductees are: Harvey Mattes, William Judd, David Haley, Bob Brown, Tim Tolli, Calvin Shellman, Charlie Croff and Allison Depp.
The Lou Gehrig 11-U Iron Horsemen won the Western New York State Championship for Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken baseball by going 5-0 and outscoring their opponents, 58-6, in the tournament at Westwood Park in Lancaster. The team will travel to the Eastern Regionals which will begin on Friday in Basking Ridge, N.J. Team members are: Brian Addudle, Jacob Anderson, Matt Barrali, Andrew Fairbrother, Jack Gelder, Jack Gilbert, Sam Latorre, Dillon Lobdell, David O’Donoghue, Andrew Oris, Gunnar Wepner and Cam Zurat. Team coach is Tim Gelder, and assistant coaches are Brent Zurat, Scott Fairbrother and Bill Anderson.
West Seneca American Legion Post 735 baseball team won its third district title in four years and extended its record to 23-2 on the season. The team is headed to Donovan Stadium at Murnane Field in Utica on Wednesday for the 2013 State American Legion Tournament. Team members include: Ian Allen, Corey Fermo, Josh Fuller, Zac Hayes, Matt Keating, Ryan Keating, Trot Kelly, Joel Krywcun, Justin Krzemien, Joe Kwasniewski, Alex Pacer, Mike Prentice, Coyote Sokolski, Austin Spindler, Bill Sulkowski, Noah Thompson, Zach Trumpler and Paul Wujek. The coaching staff is led by Pete Trzybinski with assistants Tim Klimtzak, Ryan Struzik and Mike Yochum.
Veteran bowler Dave Guindon of West Seneca shot 249 in the final round and won the $20,000 top prize in the recent TAT (True Amateur Tournament) Summer Classic at the Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nev. Guindon led his qualifying round with a 697 to advance to the finals. Alex Hoskins of Pocatello, Idaho, was second, earning $10,000. Guindon, the 1986 and 2002 George A. Obenauer Masters champion, once bowled a 300 games in an International Eliminator in Las Vegas.
