The 19th Annual Youth Police Academy for seventh- and eighth-grade students is set for March 8 in Buffalo Police Headquarters.
Applications for the daylong academy, which provides middle school students with an opportunity to interact with members of law enforcement, are available in the principals’ offices at public, private and charter schools throughout the city.
The first 100 students to return the applications will be enrolled in the event, which is free and includes lunch. The curriculum includes discussions on social media crimes, bullying, drug and alcohol prevention and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Each youngster will receive a “Community Service” certificate signed by Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda.
